How TSC Teacher Swap Works
This page explains the official procedure followed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) when two teachers want to swap stations.

- check_circle Employed by TSC
- check_circle Same cadre and job group
- check_circle Same subject combination where applicable
- check_circle Confirmed staff, not interns or interns on probation

Find a Willing Swap Partner
A swap is voluntary. Both parties must agree to the exchange.

- check_circle Both must be willing to exchange current stations
- check_circle Agreement must be mutual and documented
Apply for Transfer as a Mutual Swap
Each teacher submits a transfer application with the following details:
- check_circle Current school and station
- check_circle Target school and station
- check_circle Reason selected as "Mutual Swap"
- check_circle Details of the swapping teacher
Headteacher Recommendation
Both headteachers must recommend the swap. They confirm:
- check_circle The teacher is on staff
- check_circle There are no disciplinary issues
- check_circle Subject replacement is acceptable
- check_circle School operations will not be disrupted
Sub-County Director Review
Both Sub-County Directors of Education review the applications. They check:

TSC Headquarters Approval
TSC headquarters makes the final decision.
If approved:
- check_circle The transfer is entered into the TSC systems
- check_circle Official transfer letters are issued
Reporting and Assumption of Duty
Teachers report to their new stations on the date stated in the transfer letter.

Realities Teachers Should Know
Administrative & Slow
The process involves multiple approval layers (principals, sub-county directors, county directors, and HQ) and can take weeks to months.
Incomplete Matches Rejected
Applications with mismatched job groups or levels (e.g. attempting to swap between primary and secondary) are instantly rejected.
Subject Mismatch
Subject combination mismatch is a common failure point that derails many swaps, as school staffing boards need exact subject coverage.
Verbal Agreements Invalid
Verbal swap agreements without official paperwork submission are invalid. Follow the proper administrative procedures to secure your swap.
